In America in the beginning, the performance arts achievements of the young Maureen FitzSimons (who we know as Maureen O'Hara) would definitely place her into the category of child prodigies. But for a person of Irish origin, and surrounded by gifted parents and family, these were very natural traits. Maureen entered this loving sanctuary in Ranelagh, Ireland on August 17th of 1920. Marguerita L. FitzSimons made a name for herself with her contralto. Charles FitzSimons owned the Shamrock Rovers soccer team in Ireland, and also ran a Dublin business. Maureen FitzSimons was the daughter of Charles FitzSimons. Peggy, Florrie Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons completed this lovely family. Maureen loved playing rough sports when she was an infant and was extremely proficient at them. Her talent for performing was the perfect match for her love of athletics. She was awarded nearly all Feis Award for Drama and Theatre Performance the country could offer. When she was in her 14th year, she joined the Abbey Theater to follow her dream and study classical theatre and operatic vocals.
